Future Framing Markets Forum
There is an enormous amount happening across housing, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), prefabrication and future construction markets, and FTMA wants to make sure our frame and truss manufacturers are part of the conversation.
On Tuesday 20 October, FTMA will bring manufacturers together with government, researchers, training organisations and industry at the Future Framing Markets Forum at PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport.
This won't be a traditional conference. Presentations will provide an update on some of the major projects and initiatives underway, but a key part of the day will be facilitated table workshops, giving manufacturers the opportunity to ask questions, provide practical feedback, identify barriers and opportunities, and have a genuine say in what comes next.
The program will include sessions on the Future Framing Initiative, System 600, the John Curtin Research Centre's housing work and National Demonstration, Melbourne Polytechnic's Future of Housing Construction Centre of Excellence, as well as senior state and territory government representatives discussing their housing and MMC priorities.
We will deliberately mix the seating so manufacturers, government, researchers and industry representatives are talking directly with each other. We want the people developing these programs to hear from the manufacturers who will ultimately be needed to help deliver them.
There is good funding opportunities for our members to advance our sector, but we must be at the table, and must have our voices heard.
The Forum is open to all Australian timber frame and truss manufacturers, both FTMA members and non-members. FTMA Partners will be invited, while other supplier and industry participation will be limited and by invitation. This is deliberate, as manufacturers need to remain the focus of the day.
There are significant opportunities developing for our sector. Some manufacturers are already investing heavily to move into new markets, while others are considering where they fit. This Forum is an opportunity to understand what is happening, what may be coming next and, most importantly, make sure our industry has a voice in shaping it.

Most Frame & Truss manufacturers know what their timber costs. Many know what their labour costs. But far fewer have a clear view of what one hour of in-house cutting is really costing once every input is brought together. ...
