FTMA Australia proudly introduced the inaugural FTMA Industry Icon Award at the 2026 Industry Awards, recognising an individual whose contribution to the Australian frame and truss industry has helped shape the sector for generations.

The award was created to honour individuals connected to the supplier side of the industry whose leadership, innovation and long-term commitment have had a lasting impact across the broader frame and truss sector.

While the FTMA had originally intended to introduce the award in 2024, the association felt strongly that the inaugural recipient needed to be Peter Taylor of Multinail Australia. With Peter unable to attend at the time, the decision was made to wait until he could be present in person to accept the honour.
It was a fitting decision for an individual many within the industry believe has made one of the single greatest contributions to the development of the Australian frame and truss sector.

Nearly 50 years ago, Peter made the bold decision to establish an independent Australian nail plate company at a critical point in the industry’s evolution. At a time when the market was a duopoly, his vision helped create greater competition for manufacturers throughout Australia.

That decision not only changed the nail plate market but helped strengthen the industry as a whole.
By creating healthy competition within the sector, Peter’s contribution encouraged continued innovation, investment and improvement across manufacturing technology, engineering capability, software, automation and customer support. The benefits of multiple strong suppliers operating within the industry have been felt for decades and continue to shape the modern frame and truss sector today.

What Peter built through Multinail Australia extended far beyond simply creating a successful business. He helped establish a long-term Australian company grounded in technical excellence, strong relationships and genuine support for manufacturers across the country.

As acknowledged during the presentation, the fact it has taken more than 45 years for another company to attempt entering the nail plate market demonstrates just how difficult and significant Peter’s original achievement truly was.

Following the presentation, Peter delivered a brief acceptance speech before introducing a powerful tribute video produced by the team at Multinail Australia. The video highlighted Peter’s phenomenal career within the Australian frame and truss industry, showcasing not only the growth of Multinail, but the enormous influence Peter has had on the evolution of the sector over many decades.
