FTMA Board Charts Bold Course for a Stronger, Safer, and Greener Future

The half-day, five-hour session went beyond routine board activities, focusing on forward planning across key strategic initiatives. The goal was to ensure FTMA continues to support members by investing in programs that drive sector growth and strengthen member businesses.

FTMA 3-Year Plan (2026–2028)

Six key focus areas were agreed upon:

Safety – Deliver practical initiatives, resources, and tools to help members meet the highest workplace safety standards.
Carbon Warrior – Timber vs Steel – Expand efforts to educate and influence decision-makers while promoting timber’s environmental and performance benefits over steel.
Building Better Businesses – Strengthen members’ operations, reputation, and profitability while ensuring FTMA remains sustainable.
AFWI & Timber Projects – Invest in research, innovation, and technical advancements for lightweight frame and truss sector growth.
Recruitment & Retention – Develop targeted strategies to attract, train, and retain skilled workers.
Forecasts & Data Collection – Provide accurate, evidence-based insights to inform decisions and advocacy.

FTMA National Conference & Trade Exhibition 2026

Date: 18–19 May 2026
Venue: Sunshine Convention Centre & Novotel Twin Waters
Highlights:
- Exhibition expanded beyond annual partners (with protections against direct competitors).
- A full 2.5-hour session dedicated to the trade exhibition.
- Positioned as the biggest frame and truss event in Australia.

Growing the Carbon Warrior Program

Members in the Carbon Warrior Partner Program can now nominate builders.
Nominated builders receive:
- A pack with merchandise
- Facts on timber storing carbon for life
- A certificate recognising their role in creating a greener future
The next stage of Carbon Warrior will be launched in 2026.

Frame & Truss National Safety Council (NSC)

Reaffirmed commitment to industry-wide safety leadership.
Recognition that every accident or prosecution has national impacts.
NSC has already had success assisting members with diverse safety issues.
Ongoing focus on:
- Equipping members with tools, knowledge, and resources
- Building strong relationships with regulatory authorities.

FTMA Board Elections

The FTMA Board is voluntary, with members deeply committed to advancing the sector.
2–3 vacancies will open this year.
Nominations open next month, with elections (if required) in the first fortnight of November ahead of the AGM.
