Design considerations for extended wall frames

In most residential timber construction, wall frames are laterally restrained at the top via roof trusses or floor joists. However, in some cases, timber wall frames may extend beyond the ceiling level; this is often done to form a parapet feature.
Although extending a full-height wall frame is generally one of the most stable methods of forming a parapet, it is important to note that this kind of design is not covered in our relevant Australian standards.
