AGrade Fasteners began as an idea of owner William Jin more than two decades ago. William arrived in Australia with little to his name, and built everything you see today from the ground up — starting with nothing more than a car, a few boxes of nails, and a determination to make it work.

I’ll be honest — when I started at AGrade Fasteners, I didn’t expect to feel at home quite so quickly. Twenty years of family culture will do that to a place.

On paper, it looks like any other nationwide supplier — pneumatic tools, fasteners, a solid product range. But spend five minutes with anyone from the AGrade team and you quickly realise there’s something different going on here. The kind of thing that’s hard to manufacture and harder to maintain. Culture.

AGrade Fasteners began as an idea of owner William Jin more than two decades ago. William arrived in Australia with little to his name, and built everything you see today from the ground up — starting with nothing more than a car, a few boxes of nails, and a determination to make it work.

He was growing a family at the same time, and the pressure of those early years was real. It was humble beginnings in every sense of the word, but William showed up every day and did what needed to be done. Slowly but surely, he built AGrade into a trusted name — driven by a simple belief that quality products and honest service would speak for themselves. His children, Ed and Adeline, eventually joined the fold, becoming integral to the expansion of the business and — more importantly — vital in continuing to build the family culture their father had established from day one.

One thing I specifically love about AGrade Fasteners is that everyone is a joy to be around. Days feel a lot more enjoyable when you get a call from one of your friendly neighbourhood sales representatives, like Tony. Sure, you’ll work through which customer needs what product by what date, but he’ll make sure to check in and see how you’re doing — or ask how the house renovations went on the weekend. And then there’s Les, who has been in this game since Bostitch was the biggest name in fasteners. He’s a well known and respected figure in the industry, and that depth of knowledge and genuine care for the people he works with makes him a real asset to have in your corner.

Everybody is friendly and down to earth. It’s always great when Adeline pops in to let you know you’ve done a great job during a busy period, and then asks what you thought of the Australian Open final. We all feel like we are part of a small family. It feels fantastic, and more importantly, it feels authentic. The heart behind AGrade is something I really admire, and it truly brings us all together.

The AGrade culture — well, it’s exactly that. As a family business, trust, loyalty and doing right by one another are key elements in the way it operates. These values have been vital in developing the long-term employee relationships that AGrade thrives upon. Most staff members have been with the business for ten years or more, and Adeline has expressed how much backing and valuing those long-term relationships means to her. It allows for the development of a tight-knit team that grows together, and that really defines what the AGrade Fasteners culture is all about.

The same applies to AGrade’s customer relationships. William, Adeline and Ed have worked very closely with many customers over long periods of time. The trust and loyalty between AGrade and its customers has been built through honesty, sincerity and commitment — and I strongly believe that derives from AGrade’s foundations as a family business. You can see it in the laughter and tone of phone calls, the vibe of meetings, and the friendly nature of emails. These relationships mean so much to everyone.

Look — there are day-to-day challenges, just like any other business in the industry. Delivery delays, customer frustrations, urgent matters — these things are inevitable. But everyone at AGrade maintains effective communication with full transparency, ensuring not only a resolution to any issue that arises, but support that is genuinely team-building and makes you feel comfortable. When stress arrives, someone is always there to help.

In my overall experience at AGrade Fasteners, I’ve felt nothing short of supported and valued since the day I walked in. I feel heard, and I’m allowed to be myself. I feel safe at work, and I feel like an important part of the team.

Where we can help each other, we do. This business thrives on the development of relationships, and it’s something special to watch those relationships and the business itself grow side by side. Twenty years in, AGrade Fasteners continues to back its people, serve its customers, and look forward to what comes next.
