Australia's housing challenge is often measured by the number of homes that need to be built. Less attention is given to an equally important question: does the manufacturing sector have the capacity to produce the components those homes require?

For AG Trusses, that question has shaped the company's growth strategy for several years. Following the recent automation of its Victorian operation, the company has been announced as one of the successful recipients of the Western Australian Government’s Housing Innovation Fund (HIF) grant to expand and automate its Perth manufacturing facility.

For the family-owned business, which has been manufacturing timber roof trusses and wall frames for more than 40 years, the grant supports a long-term commitment to increasing manufacturing capability across both Western Australia and Victoria.

Jacqueline Goodwin led the successful grant submission, bringing together the strategic, operational and financial case for investment in AG Trusses' next stage of growth.

"The application wasn't simply about purchasing equipment. It was about demonstrating how investment in manufacturing strengthens the entire housing supply chain. Every new home relies on manufacturers delivering quality structural components efficiently and consistently."

The Perth project will introduce advanced automation, improving productivity, workflow and workplace safety while increasing production capacity. Combined with the recent Victorian expansion, AG Trusses is strengthening its ability to support builders across two of Australia's major housing markets.

For AG Trusses, increasing production isn't just about building more homes. As a timber truss and frame manufacturer, it's also about doing so with a renewable, sustainably sourced building material—a double win for both housing and sustainability.

For AG Trusses, the Housing Innovation Fund is more than recognition of one business. It highlights the vital role Australia's frame and truss manufacturers play in delivering the homes of tomorrow. As Jacqueline puts it:

"Manufacturers don't just support housing—they enable it.”
